Default Do I need a firewall with a router

Hi,
My pc is hard wired into the modem/router and my laptop picks up wireless from the router.
If my router has a secure WPA pass key do I also need firewalls on both machines?
Cheers,
Al

your router has SP 1 firewalll built into it

Hardware firewall is the best!!!!

You dont need firewall anywhere else. However u can use software based firewalls if you want. I.E zone alarm and of course the Windows firewall.

''WPA key'' is the key for your wireless. An encryption key which allows to keep your network safe from outside world.

if your second machine has a wireless card then you would need that '' wpa key'' to be able to join your LAN. And this will enable you to surf the internet and so on.

Are all of these inherent when you buy and install a router? What I mean is, the majority of Britons are leaving themselves and their routers open to attack according to this article: Lax Security At Home Makes Wi-Fi Vulnerable To Hackers, Says Study | UK News | Sky News

Is this because they aren't doing the very basic? With what you suggest, with firewalls etc, will this eliminate the threats that the article discusses?

thanks!

According to that article that you have posted above it seems like a lot of people have either very basic form of encryption or no encryption @ all on there wifi networks.

as it states on the article if you remian viglante enough then you should be fine and protect your wifi network with some sorta encryption.

The way I see is that all Wifi networks / encryptions can be hacked into, and same goes with firewalls as well.

The only way to stay safe is by not plugging in your ethernet cable into the back of your computer.

I have had fraud commited on my credit card twice within the space of 3 months.

that says it all.
