I'm relatively new to Web Design but am looking to learn to design an e-commerce website for the purpose of selling items with a few functions which I'll list below;
Ability to alter/upload images and prices (possibly with a user friendly type of interface) - perhaps with stock remaining feature? A registration system, which could send email templates regarding ordered items. Payment would ideally be processed via Pay Pal, I don't wish to handle credit/debit card information. I'll be using Dreamweaver CS4 or CS5 I'd like any help regarding theory and must read bits of information or templates to help this build. Thanks in advance for any help

There is quite a bit of ecommerce software out there - OSCommerce, Zen Cart, and Magento all come to mind.
The problem is that for some insane reason the develops have made the templating systems on each of these about as difficult as they could get away with. There's no common sense behind the templating, only "developer logic". So if you are looking to template ecommerce software yourself, take a look at the features offered by each type to select the one you want to use, but I'm afraid you'll need to prepare yourself to be very patience with customising it yourself.
