Default Sky multiroom from communal sky dish

e
I really need help from some tech expert out there. This is so confusing I dont know where to start. Here goes!! I live in a flat and share a communal dish wish various other flats. I was having some repairs done about a month ago by the engineer supplied by the landlord (who incidentally installed the system within the flat when it was being renovated) and he said he could split the feed coming into my flat to enable my son to have multiroom. My son was delighted and the work was carried out and the plate in my son's room was replaced to accomodate this. I contacted Sky to order a new box and everything was installed ok. I was told at the time there would be limitations with this as there was only one feed going in to my sons room and not two as required to run the system properly but we decided this was not going to be too much of a problem and we would go ahead anyway. Since then it has all become a bit of a nightmare and as you can imagine the little engineer seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth leaving us having paid £200 for the box and an extra £20 per month for multiroom and HD. Sometimes my sons box does not work and other times it is mine with either no signal message on screen or no satellite signal being received. I am now being told Sky operates on four different bands with certain channels being grouped together in these individual bands and if I am watching a channel within one of these bands my son cannot watch a channel from one of the other bands. Does anyone understand what I am talking about and can anyone help me before I go completely mad

Yes, the usual satellite feed can't be split.

Two separate runs from the multiswitch are needed.

There are as you say, two bands and vertical or horizontal polarisation.

The receiver selects low or high and V OR h. The lnb (switch in your case) can't supply v and h, or low or high at the same time from just one feed.

The satellite engineer is a cowboy if hes just put a splitter in there. You need to get a proper engineer in.

I'm sorry but the "engineer" is an idiot ans obv has no clue about satellite.

You can't split a satelllite feed. The reciever selects between band and polarity on the LNB (or in your case a multi switch) by using either 13v or 18v and a 22khz tone or not. The bands are high and low, ant the polarity Vertical or Horizontal. Giving 4 possibilities VH/VL/HH/HL.

Your having the problem that both recievers are trying to tell the LNB to switch to differant bands which it cant do. Without rewiring the only suggestion I can make is for you to take the split feed out of your main box, giving each reciever a feed of its own. Of course you loose watch one record another on both recievers.

Thats if you have two separate feeds coming to your flat, if so then yes, you can use one for each room. And put each Sky+ box into single feed mode.
