black screen help

Hi folks, wonder if anyone can throw a little light on this for me b4 i start taking it apart, just got a laptop from a neighbour to have a look at, fixed a number of pc b4 but kinda limited knowledge when it comes to laptops, although i have managed to change a screen on 1, anyway as i said have this laptop and it switches on ok, the wifi light comes on at the front of laptop and the disc symbol comes up when you open and close the dvd drive, apart from that, nothing, screen is black, any ideas as what this could be, im open to suggestions, cheers

If it's got an external output try plugging it in to a monitor.
I assume that the boot up screen shows up as normal, at what point does the display go black?

it could be the Inverter light... shine a bright torch on it and see if you can see any display... if you can then its the inverter light most likely

Otherwise its the flourecent tube which needs replacing.

no boot screen and tried plugging into monitor but no joy m8

cant see a thing, not even getting a boot screen or any windows xp start up tune etc

Sounds like the Flouresent tube might have conked out mate

cheaper to replace the screen mate.

cheers m8, is there a 100% way of checking b4 buying a new screen, b nothing worse than shelling out for 1 then finding out its another prob

The only 100% way of checking is if you have another screen which u can test it with.

other then that I dont know how else you will check mate.

have you tried plugging it into the external Monitor as Mickha suggested above?

because if it doesnt work with the external monitor then the problem definetly lies somewhere else.

Most likely it could be the GFX card. But this all guess work from me and technincally you would need to test it out if you have spare parts.

best thing is take it to a laptop expert and let them analyse the issue for you mate.
