Default Putting a splitter in downstairs

I'm with virgin media for all my services. Internet is upstairs with a cable box and downstairs is just a cable box. I think I only have one cable coming to my house so I'm guessing it gets split from this cable. The problem I have is I want an a780 or similar but can't get it on the network. Can I split the cable Downstairs using a splitter and have my broadband and a780 downstairs?

Thanks sam

u can use the connection downstairs for the kv, u must have a router upstairs? then u can use a wifi bridge or home plugs to recieve services for the kv.

Yes I've got a router and know about the wifi homeplugs option but I've got my ps3 downstairs and it's struggling online over the wifi so would like the router/modem downstairs.

So is splitting the cable possible?

How many times can it be split before you lose signal?

So if I do it this way the source will be split 3 times. 2 times for modem/a780. Is that alrite? I will not be using 2 of 4 connections, will this bump up the signal or is it the same as being plugged in?
