Basically I am the having the problem of getting my Sennheiser RS 110 wireless headphones to work my LG HDTV.
Here is the TV I have: LG 32LC56 32LC56 - Televisions and TVs from Direct TVs And the headphones: Sennheiser UK - RS 110 The problem is the TV does not have an audio out 3.5mm jack it only has an optical digital output (Toslink). The cable that came with the headphones which needs to be connected into the device is a 3.5mm jack. So I am really struggling to figure out how I can make this work. (Also I've looked into 3.5mm jack to Toslink adapters but cannot seem to find them anywhere!) I've heard that an amplifier may be what I need, something like this: Digital to Analog Audio Converter Headphone Amplifier on eBay (end time 03-Nov-10 23:28:24 GMT) It has analog output and optical input. I'm guessing I would plug the 3.5mm jack into the headphone socket and buy a toslink cable to connect the amp to my TV? But I was hoping there would be an alternative solution such as an adaptor of some sort? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! - Harvey |

You won't get a straightforward 1-to-1 adapter for this, the two technologies are totally different. The one you have highlighted looks as though it'll do the job, but it might be wiser to try and find a UK stockist in case it ends up not being right.
If you are within your distance selling returns period, I'd send the TV back and order something that has a headphone socket. Just to double check - have you looked all over the set for a 3.5mm socket? I know it's not listed in the spec, but to buy a TV without one today seems almost unreal.

Ah right I see, yeah I've looked for the same converter in the U.K but can't seem to find it.
I purchased the T.V about 2 years ago, it is the headphones that I have just recently bought, assumed that they would work on my T.V ![]() Would it be possible to get maybe 2 adaptors then? As I am trying to find the cheapest solution possible. |

You might spend a lot of time looking and even then draw a blank. TBH you are looking at getting hold of an A/V amp with S/PDIF connections, or buying the adapter you've found and a small hi-fi or stand alone amplifier and connecting them up.

Hmm okay. So are you saying that even if I buy the digital to analog audio converter I'd still need to buy another amplifier? I thought the converter would do the trick :O

I've read the same blurb as you (I used your link).
The unit may provide a signal at the correct level and impedance for headphones, but from what I can tell, it does not - the lack of a volume control is a fair indicator - hence my original suggestion of trying to find a UK stockist ![]() If it's purely for headphone use, you might want to try and find a bit of kit that has an optical input and headphone output on the second hand market (flea-bay or similar, like this SHARP MD-R2 Mini Disc Deck / Separate with Record Audio on eBay (end time 15-Oct-10 21:51:09 BST)). At least then you won't need to purchase the converter unit. I have a Pioneer MD unit connected to a PC which in turn has several devices going into it - I plug my headphones into the MD and use that to monitor (it has a "rehearsal" mode that allows me to listen to the inputs without writing to disc) which would certainly do what you are asking.

Ahh I see now. Yeah it really is just for headphone use, nothing else.
Yeah I see what you mean about the optical in. Well it is still possible for me to return the headphones, I was looking into some headphones that have optical in, and I've managed to find these: Sony MDR-DS3000K Infrared Wireless Headphones: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics If I bought those, they would connect straight to my T.V right? Because they have optical in and my T.V has optical out. |

The Sony kit would appear to be more than capable of doing what you want - if you can find it. A quick search of the usual (and not so usual) places proved them to be out of stock and the reviews I've read all date from 2004.

Hmm yeah I noticed that they are quite hard to find. I will have to look around to see if I can find another pair around the same price range with optical connection.
Cheers for all the hope though RayB, greatly appreciated!
