Hi,

I have a sky box in my living room, and i have used a splitter to connect another sky box in my bedroom...however when both boxes are connected one of the boxes goes back to following message "no satellite signal is being received".............and when i disconnect the working boxes from the splitter the one that had the message starts working!

can someone on this forum please help me?

will i need a signal booster? if so which one and from where?

You can't use a splitter. Each box needs it's own feed.

Fit a quad LNB, if you have one already and have used up all the ports, then use an Octo instead, run one cable to every tuner.

The RF out will let you watch the same channels on both tv's at the same time. With a magic eye you can change channel from the remote TV too.

What you need, as said, for 2 boxes is a feed for each from the dish. And you may or may not need to upgrade the LNB.

Go and look at it.

See how many connections it has on it.

If it has one, it's a single, if it has 4 it is a quad.

RF out does not give enough flexibility, especially since you already have two boxes.

Sorry to bring up an oldish thread but I am having the EXACT same problem.
I have a basic Sky box and an Openbox S9 that I'm also trying to use at the same time.

When using a splitter, the s9 box works and knocks the Sky one out. And if I turn the s9 box off then the Sky one turns back on.

Curious to know, why does it work like this??

I can remember when I had cable Dreambox 500c's you could connect to as many splitters with no multiple viewing problems. But that was cable of course.

I have an official Sky dish and from what I understand it only has 1 LNB. I don't really want to touch this dish as I'm assuming it's still the property of Sky's?? And I'm still with Sky.
Or am I ok changing the LNB on it myself?

Was even thinking of subscribing for a 2nd sky box just for the sake of them installing another feed, LNB etc seems as I'm clueless right now.

No idea how this would work, but if someone can please give me advice on what I NEED just to be sure, I will then try and figure the 'how to do' part out (if it's safe to do so).

Thanks

Edit: Proabaly a silly question but there's no way of making this simply work by putting a splitter on the actual lnb and then running 2 wires from it that way???? :S

LNB's are active devices, the reciever sends a combination of voltage and tone to the LNB to select band and polarity. That's why a splitter dosen't work.

The dish is yours, all you need to do is change the LNB for a quad, and run another cable from dish to reciever.

Thanks for the info Rick.
Ok I take it any quad LNB for a Sky dish will do?
There's no such thing as 'one quad LNB being better than the other'? Because I'm seeing a load of cheap ones on eBay, and in fact there's quiet a few close to where I live by location. So I'll probably buy which ever one is closest to me.
Selling for around a fiver.

Edit: noticed these mk4 quad LNB's. Would I really need one of those to view HD channels, or will any quad LNB do?

Cheers.
