Default iphone 4 problems

Ok heres the story, Bought a factory unlocked iphone 4, got a new o2 sim card, activated there and then in the shop (from old sim to new micro sim). Went home put it in phone connected to laptop to activate it. Message came up that sim card is not supported with the device. That was fine so I activated it with limera1n and I can connect to Itunes no problem.
So now the phone works Wi-Fi apps etc. I then jailbroke the phone with ultrasn0w.
My problem now is the phone cant make calls or txts. the service indicator in the top left goes from one bar to 'no service'.
Went to settings-general-about and it says network-not available and carrier-not available...
Can anyone shed some light on the issue or tell me where I went wrong. any help much appreciated.
