Default HD combo mac address error -- serial flashing not working :(

I updated my firmware on my "starview hd combo lan" box and now my mac address says 0A:00:00:00:00:00 so I googled around read some forums and ppl saying to do this serial flashing thing, so I downloaded the files, followed the instructions to the letter step by step, but it does NOT work.
I read comments on other forums from people saying the same thing, it does not start to fill the bar to 100% when powering on the box but nobody has replied with a solution, so I thought I would ask here.

Does anybody know a way which ACUALLY WORKS to flash the starview hd combo lan to original firmware version?

i tried with usb to serial, then with serial to serial (rs232) on 2 computers with 2 different com ports, seriously, does not work. if you have got it to work could you please explain how?

if anybody can help it would be SOO much appreciated,

thanks

Since this post was made (where the july 2010 firmware update ****** up the mac address) there have been 2 firmware updates that im aware of, I installed the first one of november 2010 update hoping it would fix my issue the last firmware caused, but no luck.

I really want to use the network feature of this box, I chose this one beacuse it had a network port and HD..

Should I install the newer firmware update, or would this have no effect to fix my problem if the previous one didn't? As stated above, I am having no success trying to connect using serial port to downgrade the firmware to a version which worked with the lan...

and no, I have never used the incorrect firmware updates, always "Starview HD Combo with lan" update files.

If it is a clone box (i have no idea how to check?) and if this is why it happened with this firmware update, is it pooped? and i should look at buying a new one which is non clone? and if its not pooped, is there a way to fix this mac address issue?

Any help would be most appreciated!

I dont fully understand what you wrote, I have heard the mac address is posted on sticker inside the box but you cannot edit the mac address on the device using the network menu, its locked you can only change ip/subnet etc..., so you cannot get network working, it is more complicated than that.

I don't believe that any of the newer Carling firmwares will allow you to edit the MAC or downgrade the Firmware. You can try Knightrider but I don't think that will do it either.

That is what he is having problems with M8.

I'm not sure the MAC is essential for anything except connecting to the (now extinct) original SV cable server, so it may be OK to leave it as it is for now.

but you need network to access cs servers (if one were to do this), to get access to some locked sat channels.. correct?
