Just caught this story on the Beebs website
BBC News - Kinect hacked days after release If the X-box Kinect thingy can be hacked in days by these people, should companies such as eurovox etc not be enlisting the services of these guys to hack N3. Think of the revenue it would create for them ?? |

Maybe if all members of this site donated £1 a substantial incentive/reward may be available for the 1st hacker to crack n3 ?
Just a thought ! Carrot and stick and all that !! |

The kind of money that could be generated from a £1 donation per member would only be a fraction of the money necessary to spend to get a solution. Your looking at £50k+ just to hire some of the necessary equipment for a week |

Companies like Eurovox probably make no more than £25 a box in profit. For them to start a very risky venture of cracking a smartcard they would likely need to guarantee sales of 40,000+ boxes just to break even. Its simply not worth their time and effort or the possible legal consequences, especially when the the smartcard company concerned will likely simply issue new cards. |

Figures huh !!
So everyone donates £x for a 100% working hack, will still work out cheaper than 12 months subs to VM. As for economics , you got to speculate to accumulate , £25 mark up on every box sold is better than a kick in the nuts, which is what VM has dealt to folks in relation to N3. Fight the great coperation fight !! Kinect has proved the point, and I quote from the beeb , The attempt to hack the control system for the Kinect gadget was kick-started by electronics kit maker Adafruit. On 4 November it announced it would pay $1,000 (£624) to the first person to produce control software, known as drivers, for the Kinect. It upped the bounty to $3,000 (£1,871) following comment from Microsoft saying it did not condone the reverse-engineering of its motion controller |

Because hacking some USB hardware is the same as hacking a hardcore encryption system.
