With Facebooks past record I suspect email will be aound for a long time yet and may even outlive such services as facebook. Certainly most corporate users wouldn't trust such a service !

Your average consumer will trust facebook though (I know you and I have ignored may a farmville/bumface application).

Facebook has almighty power with those who spend as they're told to, making it the advertisers dream. And people are stupid enough to think that a facebook email is cool.

I believe its only somewhere around 5% of emails are to 'average' consumers. 60% odd are apparently spam whilst the rest are corporate.

The Spam would be no loss but that still means that corporate emails outweigh consumer email by nearly 7 to 1. Even if facebook took all consumer emails (which they wont - they will never get mine ) it would barely change the number of emails flowing !
