Default New virgin limits, They Suck

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but along with traffic shaping virgin media are now automatically cutting downstream and upstream in half on all services including 50mb for "p2p" traffic which includes usenet.

this is ridiculous usnet is not p2p for a start. does anyone know if this is legal net nutrailty wise? and if it's legal for them to still advertise the service as unlimited and does anyone think it's worth jumping ship to maybe BE or another provider?

here is virgins new message

"File sharing

At peak times we also slow down the speed of file sharing traffic – that's services like Limewire, Gnutella, BitTorrent and Newsgroup (Usenet) traffic. You will, of course, still be able to use these services, but downloads and uploads will take longer during these peak periods."

This isnt traffic shaping depending on how much you have uploaded/downloaded. it is a straight up limit

/me is very un happy

This only occured in bradford an ex-telewest region two days ago.

on a 10mb connection i get 600kb/s down using usenet or torrents during the day. even ssl with usenet so they must be doing some form of dpi and they only changed their small print a few days ago

trust me i am a heavy usenet user, if they did this a long time ago i would have noticed

these two things seem to be releated, the death of net neutrailty and the birth of a fascist gov and isp

EDIT: This is not traffic shaping which has been around for a while it is ne and focuses on p2p and usenet traffic
