Exclamation Help appreciated with Bush satellite receiver

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Bush satellite receiver (BFSAT02SD). This receiver seems to be mainly geared up for freesat for which I need my dish to be pointing at the Astra satellite (28.2 degrees south of east). Currently my dish is pointing towards Hotbird, and my main aim in buying this receiver was to view FTA channels on hotbird.

Anyway the problem is when the receiver starts it first wants to set up the freesat channels, but it can't do that because my dish isn't pointing in the right direction. It shows a signal strength of zero.

Basically I wanted to know would it work if I took this receiver to a friend's house or satellite shop who has a dish pointing at the Astra satellite, set up the freesat channels, and then take the device back home and manually add Hotbird FTA channels now that the initial setup part has been passed?

Or does the receiver only work with the astra satellite?

Alternatively is there some kind of code you can press which allows you to bypass the initial setup and go straight to the menu so i can manually add channels?

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

As far as I know it only works with Freesat.

Not a good idea to buy a Bush Freesat receiver to view Hotbird in the first place, if you are able to return it do that.

Otherwise, it seems that it is possible to view non freesat channels

There should be no reason why this couldn't be done on Hotbird, as long as it is capable of the symbol rates and FECs.

Connecting to a sky dish to get past the menu should work, unless you can find an alternative button pressing sequence.

Thanks for all of your responses, much appreciated.

@ABA No, that's the major problem I think, I can't access the menus until the device does the initial setting up of the freesat channels. I've tried pressing every single button on the remote and it won't let me access any menus. I wish there was some kind of bypass code or something.

@Robbo Yes I made a mistake with the purchase, I didn't know the device was so inflexible. I guess I have to find a person with a dish pointing in the right direction to fix this then.

If you carefully mark your current dish position, it may be possible to re-position your own dish enough on 28E for the Bush to get a freesat signal.
