Default Connecting a laptop to sound system?

I've a friend who needs to connect his laptop to a club sound system this weekend, so am trying to figure out what he'll need to get connected.

The club sound system will need an input via two quarter inch phone jacks, so I'm trying to figure what device will allow him to connect either via his headphone output or USB outputs on his laptops.

I figure there must be a simple and cheap solution for USB > quarter inch jacks, or else basic phone output into two quarter inch phono outputs.

Any suggestions much appreciated, aside from recommendations to buy a mixing desk or soundcard for this!

er - possibly not, as the sound system won't have RCA sockets (as described by OP) but TRS sockets.

Connections at tip and side - so, single plug with insulating rings near tip (one for mono, 2 for stereo version).

Also known as phone jack - they could be much more complicated (in one rented house where I lived for a while, the phone jack had about 4 insulating rings to cater for the extension socket connections ...)
