Default Re: Is my motherboard fried!!!!!

Right have now got identical motherboard.
Do i know just add thermal paste to heatsink fan/processor and away i go?
Will the motherboard work without any disc drivers etc being installed?
If i say just make sure all connections go back like for like and any jumpers etc set to the same will it work?

Regarding paste whats the best one to get and any tips on best way to install.

Yes just add a pea size amount and use like a credit card to spread it. Do not forget to clean with alcohol properly first (use cotton Buds)... (Distilled Vodka / gin)

If it is the same Mobo as what you say then there should be no need to install any drivers as it will be all detected mostl likely. if its not detected then you can always run a repair on the OS and that will solve the problem most likely.

On the note of Jumpers you dont need to change anything @ all. The only thing that will change is when you have to boot from CD/DVD for the OS to repair / install.

If memory serves right the Silver Artic I think thats what they call it anyway is the best one apprently. However I have built enough computers and to be honest it doesnt mater which one u use. Order it from fleebay.

Right have installed new motherboard with exactly the same one as before.
I now have all usb ports working and it recognises my mouse keyboard etc.
Only problem got now is that it says:

NTLDR is missing
Press ctrl,alt and delete.

If i do this it just beeps and throws up the same message on the screen.

Any ideas on what i need to do to rectify my problem.

Am on windows 7

It means u don't have a OS installed mate. If you and your using a IDE hdd then check your jumper settings . If they are correct then boot from cd and repair / reinstall the OS. Backup all your work first.

Question Re: Is my motherboard fried!!!!!

I sort of guessed that.
Pressed F8 after pressing ctrl, alt and delete.
Got a boot page chose hard drive which i know windows 7 is on and bingo boots windows as normal.
Thought i'd cracked it but as soon as i rebooted it came back with missing NTLDR error again.
If i press F8 and choose correct hard drive windows boots fine.

How do i get it to always boot from the correct hard drive

In windows XP you used to be able to go into the boot menu and choose which device to boot from and then save it.

Is there something in windows 7 similar.
Thanks

This is what u need to do mate:

click start > run > Cmd > msconfig > Boot > select the OS which you want to make default.

Am confused with your posts to be honest... How many hard drives do you actually have in your machine which have the OS installed?

Am thinking that you have something called ''dual boot'' AKA multiple OS on one Hard drive, and your confusing that with hard drives.. Unles am wrong.

This so called beep you have just before windows Boots thats totally baffling to me as I have never come across this error before.

How many beeps before windows loads?

is it one long beep or a short beep etc ?

The possibility of a machine running windows 7 with an IDE HDD would have been very small. Along with the 4 pin push clip lock system which will either be 775,1156, or 1366. Im guessing its a fairly new ish system.

As for the front USB port's, they will indeed need to be connected to the motherboard jumper head, usually USB 5,6,7, etc. Be careful to not plug into the Firewire connection, same amount of pins, Completely different kind of outcome

If your talking about a POST beep, this will happen usually within a few seconds of switching the machine on.

Or are we talking about just before the windows log on screen will appear?
