im trying to set up the optical cable between my 40'' tv surround sound and ps3, but currently i use the optical cable from my tv to surround sound, but the surround sound dvd isnt blu ray so i use my ps3 to play blu ray is there a easier way to get the ps3 surround sound without switching cable everytime i switch between watching a blu ray and normal dvd.
my surround sound system only has one optical output |

If I've understood you correctly, you mean "only has one optical INPUT".
That being the case, if your AV Amp has a Digital Coaxial input, you can get an optical to coaxial converter. Or you can get optical splitters which will (in my experience) also work as combiners, which is what you'll need. Maplin is a good place to start looking, if you don't like their prices, have a look elsewhere.
