Default Help required. Setup: TV/PS3/Home Cinema

Hi Guys,

Sorry to dredge this thread up, but needing your professional guidence please.

Ok - So i've bought the LG HT805SH today, and intend to wire up my PS3 and Samsung TV. I presume this is do-able?

My intentions are to:

PS3 to TV via HDMI
PS3 to Surround Sound via Optical
Surround sound to TV via HDMI
Will this work - I'm a complete Noob to it all really. I basically just want the surround sound to work when i use the TV and PS3.

Any advise would be appriciated.

Thanks - Ady

The setup is very simple.. At the back of your PS 3 you have a Optical connection and checking the specs of your home cinema system you have one as well.

Buy a Optical cable and that will do what you need it do.

So all you do is connect the Optical cable @ back of your Home cinema system and the other end at the back of your PS 3.

After that for extra added bonus u can connect the TV to your home cinema system via the composite connection.. only difference is that you just use the Red and white cable.. and leave the yellow one out as that is used for '' Video''

you would need to buy the Stereo jack cables.

Which what will have happen is that when you have your Aux input switched on your home cinema system your TV channels sound will come out of your '' 5.1 System.

Been enjoying the system today, but had a strange thing - the PS3 was flashing at the XMB Menu, is that normal?

So this is how i have it set up:

TV to PS3 (HDMI)
PS3 to S/S (OPTICAL)
TV to S/S (RCA - AUDIO R/L Input)
TV to S/S (SCART)

Whats the optimum set up? I do have another HDMI spare

This is all well a and dandy and its perfect the way you have it.

This one here I would recommend that you connect it via component as its better then scart.

you will need to make sure that your TV has a component connection.

Thanks for replying; Apologies for my lack in knowledge but what do you mean connect it via component?

Do you mean lose the Scart from S/S to TV and replace with HDMI?

you cant connect it via HDMI as you only have one HDMI connection at the back of your home cinema system.

yes Lose the scart and replace it with the wire that looks like this:

Component Video Lead : Connect Video : Maplin

kind regards

That connection will be taken up as when you want to watch DVD's on your home cinema system.

Which is why I said lose the scart and connect the TV via component.

And connect Home cinema system directly via HDMI. IF memory serves me right your home cinema system does ''Upscalling''

And I quote this is from the specs:
Quote:
Connect the system to an HDTV via HDMI and DVDs will even better as the system boasts 1080p upscaling . This enhances picture quality to near Full HD with improved clarity, detail and shaper lines.

I won't be using the Home Cinema System, as i will run all my DVD's through the PS3.

well before you do that you should ask yourself '' Does the PS 3 upscale DVD's to 1080P?''

if the answer is no then its a waste of time watching DVD's on the PS 3 mate.

Use the PS 3 as a Blu ray player mate.
