the best firmware out for your acecard is akaio 1.8.1
this is like the loader that goes on your microsd card.

new dsi's have had a firmware upgrade to version 1.4.1
you can tell which version your dsi is by going into setting with no gamecard plugged in.

this update was introduced for the sole reason of blocking flashcarts.....

now,
if your acecard was made pre september 2010 then it will not work on the dsi's 1.4.1.
alot of flashcarts were blocked acecards, r4i cards tti cards etc

if your acecard was made later than this, then it will work on dsi 1.4.1 because acecard updated the card kernal.....

if you have an older card, then it is not really a problem.
an update is available...
note.
you are updating the acecard itself and not the firmware on the sd card...

the only problem with doing this update is that you need a dsi running pre 1.4.1 firmware or a dslite to do it.
then the card will work on the new dsi...

another point worth mentioning is that there are fake acecard2i's out there.
these cost less than real acecards and work well on dslites.
the problem with them is that they do not take the kernal update, so the 1.4.1 update doesn't work.....

i hope this makes some sort of sense...
i've tried to explain as best i can, but i've had a few....
and not sure if i'm putting it across right....

cheers....
Well today's the day I go to shop for the little darlings dsi xl!
Feeling a bit dumb though as despite the great help I have had, and the fact that I am confident that my problem can be overcome, I haven't exactly been able to identify where I find the kernel update on the Acekard site!
Nothing seems to refer to 1.4 or 1.4.1 compatibility.

My logic suggests that the firmware 4.11 must be what I need?

Also, it appears that others can find version of their ds and acekard 2i firmware, being 1.4 or 1.4.1 - how do they do this?

I am totally confused! But I have faith in you, so will go and buy an xl and trial and error this afternoon!!

This is driving me mad

OK, I've bought a DSI XL and it is running 1.4E.

I've taken the Acekard 2i from his DSlite which is running 1.8.1 AKAIO and when I put it in the XL I can see an icon in the menu showing the card but when I select it I get a message saying an error has occurred and to switch XL off.

I'm stumped on what to do now! I expected to see the XL running 1.4.1 and to have to upgrade the Acekard firmware, but as it isn't I don't know where to start!

Help!

Got it sorted and all working! Phew!

If you're reading this as you were in same boat as me, I'll tell you how!
On acekard site look for heading 'Update for 1.41 of DSi'
Download this and then extract the 'ak2ifw_update_141_DSL.nds' file to your sd card containing your normal Acekard software stuff. Put cart into DSlite and switch on. Select the Acekard and you will find the update file in the list with your games.
Select the update file, confirm to run update and there you go!
Once update ran I tested Acekard in DSi XL and DSlite and both work fine.

Big thanks to all who pointed me in right direction!!!

My problem is the same---but I have no DSlite or alternate with the pre-1.4.1 version. Is there another fix? Should I update everything? I'm at a loss. Strange that my twins have the same r4i cards, and only my son's is not working. Weird.
Thanks for any suggestions.
