Default In need of HD advice

Hello all,

Ok - basically I am looking to buy a new HDTV. I have two sort of n00bish questions which I hope someone can help me with.

First of all, how much of a difference is there between 1080i and 1080p? As far as I am aware, the v+ box from Virgin only supports 1080i...so there is no massive need for 1080p. Is this correct?

Secondly, a model I am looking lists input formats as 560p, 720p and 1080i. So it definitely supports those, yes?

However the "display format" says 720p which sort of contradicts that view to me. Does that mean that 1080i inputs will be downscaled to 720p and therefore not 1080i at all?

Sorry for the hastily worder questions - but I'd be really grateful if someone could give me a helping hand

Cheers!!
