My Compaq Presario SR2000 has recently gone mad !!
I cant get on MSN messenger chat (Or any other chat rooms either) My System restore wont work My Scan and repare disc wont work Windows updtaes wont run So I have tried do use the F11 key at the start Can anyone please give me any advice Thanks in advance |

Try booting in safe mode, by pressing the F8 key on boot up, and run a full anti virus, and anti spyware scan.
You can also try running the Windows error checking option, this will then check your disk on the next boot up. |

Cheers mate I have tried to do the scan disc repair on boot up but it doesnt happen
Soooo frustrating Do you think i have a virus ?? I have done spybot scans and virgin media sacns and nothing comes up |

I use one of those. Normally they run xp home.
F10 is the system restore button on mine. If the drive has been partitioned the restore partition may not run.( I have found this with my other computers 'asus's). Doe's the operating system load up normally apart from some things not working. You have to start tapping F10 as soon as you see the compaq splash screen,to start system restore. Keep tapping untill it starts.

Thanks mate #I have managed to egt a system restore back to middle of Dec (which is a start !) and also managed to get the scan disc recovery to work too (all in safe mode so thanks ) The only thing I cant get to run now is the windows update No matter how I try to run it either in normal or safe mode it wont work and it is set to run everyday !! If I can sort this I will be more that happy Thanks for your help so far mate I am currently running Vista Home Premium |

On the Windows up date ~I keep getting an error messages of 80040154
I have tried to find a fix for this with no success Thanks to anyone who can help me |

Have you tried doing the updates manually?
Also try using sfc, go to start, run and type sfc /scannow Last edited by Mickha; 06-01-11 at 11:05 PM. |
