I've used these chips a few times and they were great, you need to be handy with the soldering though as they are seriously small. I can post a pic of a few I have left when I get home tonight if you want?

You'd probably be better with the programmer and test clip though as standard Haxorware isn't working for a lot of people these days.

Even better, buy an SB5101e that way you can program it with a cheapo jtag and/or max232 lead and you don't need to worry about bricking it.

So pretty much these chips are just pre flashed and ready to swap out for a standard one and if you buy a spi and clip you can flash it anyhow and use you're spi and clip again and again.

Anyone know were i can get an spi and clip, i wanna buy one ?

And Gypo if you're talking about, problems with the 256s apparently according to this instead of a 2mb dump, use a 1mb dump, solved this guys problems: (link edited) Well that's one solution hahah

Just incase i change my mind and opt for a SB5101e that i can buy all ready of ebay, how can i be sure this would work on my line, seeing as it was using my 256 ? Still kinda new to this hope you can catch me up to speed.

Thanks,

You can buy the clip and programmer from ebay, I'm not sure that links are allowed here but you'll find them easy enough.

I'm not talking about problems specific to the 256's, lots of people are having problems getting their modems online at the moment because of clone detection and docsis 1.1/BPI+.

I wouldn't bother with a pre-flashed SB5101e from ebay to be honest with you, you can buy a used SB5101e, max232 cable and jtag cable for the same price as a pre flashed modem. Then you have all you need to flash the modem yourself. The SB5101e also has more memory than the 256 making it quicker to navigate round the menu's and make changes in your firmware.

Any EuroDOCSIS modem will work on your line, once you get the hang of things.

Yeah thanks for catching me up to speed Gypo, cheers mate. I've had a look on flee bay and at the moment in the UK there's pretty much only one guy that's seller the programmer and the clips for the 256. On the advertising page for the programmer, it lists a load of supported devices/chips and i don't know what version spi chip i have, i tryed to have a look through an old magnifying glass but i still can't make it out.

Is there anyway of telling and do i really need to know and would it be possible that it could turn out that if i do buy the programmer my 256 want have a supported spi chip, it does state on the advertsing page that the programmer is for the 256, so surley without knowing for sure what spi i have that's good enough.

Any thoughts on this please mate ??

Thanks,

im using a spi flash v1.3 programmer . i have a 16 pin and 8pin test chip soldered on it . one on top and the other on the bottom .

works great on A300 modems too , plus they look a lot better than the old 256 type .
