Hey, why the talk of wasting cash? the sb5100 is sooooo easy to flash yourself with a Jtag cable (about a fiver from that well known auction site or make your own from an old printer cable) all the info,software and help is right here on Techwatch!
If you go down the 256 route what will you do when that one screws up? believe me an spi programmer and test clip will cost you way more than that or you'll still end up lining someone else's pockets
