Red face Completely confused about which RS232 cable to use...

Hi all of you wonderful people of this helpful forum,

I have been reading and reading and reading and getting more and more confused with every post. Forgive my ignorance but what type of RS232 cable do I exactly need to update/flash my Silvercrest SL65?
Some say I need a "Null Modem Cable", others say I need "RS232 Null Modem Cable" which is different than your ordinary "Null Modem". (going nuts here)

And even if a correct one is purchased by me, I am assuming its going to be a 9 pin female serial cable on both ends. Since I don't have a serial port on any of my PCs or laptops, don't I need to convert them to usb with some type of adapter or another cable?

If anyone could kindly point me towards the right cable (maybe where I could buy those items, through a URL link) I would be forever indebted to them.

Aeson

Basically you need a RS232 null modem cable and a USB to RS232 adapter.

Serial Null Modem 9Pin Female to 9Pin Female : Null Modem Cables : Maplin

and

USB to Serial 9Pin Male Adaptor : USB Adaptors : Maplin

Maplin is dear, get it somewhere else like ebay.

BTW, DELETED UNHELPFUL COMMENTS from someone who should know better!

Thank you so much SIR.

I was in the middle of writing another reply to the person who posted the useless comment, when to my surprise I couldn't post it, since it was already deleted lol...

Anyhow THANK YOU so much. Honestly its people like you who make everything worthwhile, expecting nothing in return.

Where do you think I got my info in the description from?
Among others, I found it here and here....etc

If you go through those posts you will see that I have a different problem as compared to them. Going from their query I knew I was somewhat on the right path and even suggestively asked in my initial query about the alternatives and additional items needed for my situation specific predicament.

All you did was make a useless comment which didn't help anybody.
And just because you received a harsh answer, does that justify treating someone "exactly the way you were treated"?
Obviously you are still bothered by it, evident from your last comment. Then why do that to someone else?

Glory Hallelujah!!! Jesus set you free?
??
Then I am sure you have heard of the phrase, "We must treat others as we wish others to treat us".

The current thinking is, either post constructively or don't post. Also when someone new joins and asks a sensible question in a polite way, we shouldn't really be putting them off with sarcastic comments.
