Default Starview 7 Help

Hi guys

I'm trying to get a friend's box up & running. I took my Starview HD combo down to his and it worked fine, however when we plugged his in it said channels scrambled. I looked at the IP Setup and it was all zeros, however when I plug his box into my setup, it works fine and without problem, plus the IP setup info was all prepopulated.

I thought that maybe changing the IP info at his place manually may help things but I am unable to determine his '2nd DNS' or 'User DNS' using ipconfig /all. This info is also populated when his box is plugged into my setup, so I'm assuming its important to get it working down at his place.

Can someone point me in the direction as I'm still very new to this sorta thing

Thanks

Swap boxes that would get you both some viewing, they must be worth the same money.

I think he'd rather try and get this starview 7 box working first (which it obviously does, just not at his house) than just go buy a new HD combo. Which I hear are discontinued now anyway? And its not same viewing - I get HD channels, he doesnt.

But thanks for answers pertinent to the question guys

could be the router causing the prob, not assiging an ip address to the box.

reboot everything and try it again then see if that helps.

cant think of a reason why the other box works fine and that one doesnt!

yeah not just the box but the rouetr and modem,,, everyhting that is plugged into network basically to refresh everything, if the box has a conflicting ip addy on the network then it wont be assigned a new ip. also check if dhcp is on and running on the router so it auto assigns an ipp addy.
what happens if you set up an ip on the box manually?

regards dave

That sounds like his box is not connecting to his Ethernet cable properly. It sounds like his cable works in your box and his box works on your cable, suggesting that his box only has a problem with his cable.

I would try a different Ethernet cable in a different port on the router and check the plugs are firmly inserted at both ends.

You can use Google's DNS if you want - 8.8.8.8

this is the strange thing - I used his ethernet cable to plug his box into my router and it worked fine. and my box worked fine using his ethernet at his place. baffling. but entering the details manually seems to be the next step.
