Default Re: CRT or LCD tv?

The LCD screens with CCFT (cold cathode fluorescent tube) backlights do use more power than the newer so called LED screens which are really LCD screens with LED backlights, bit of a con with the price increase.
Plasmas are heavy on power.
The old Valve CRT TV when they first came out were always breaking down but the later ones would last for years.
The new technology expects you to throw your tv away every couple of years and buy the latest gimmick 3D etc.
The new OLED screens look to have an even shorter life they have a problem with blue not lasting.

Im sorry to disagree!!!

LCD's are cheap garbage... Dont produce anywhere near as good a picture and give many ppl headaches looking at them!

Here are MANY who agree my friend: www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1296596

Maybe but as waqasahmed posted, they are more energy efficient. Personally, I get on OK with a LCD, especially when viewing HD.

I always found a CRT to be a much better quality picture on a good analogue SD picture, but they are now very difficult to find with the DSO.

Here are MANY who agree my friend: Would you consider CRT technology superior to LCD or Plasma? - AVS Forum
That has no bearing on their (energy) efficiency. Newer technology does tend to be more energy efficient, regardless of how bad you think the technology is

Think that's generally been the case since around the start of the millennium, or at least around 2005 or so. Think it's the case of manufacturers making cheaper and cheaper devices, making less of a profit as a result and so they need us to keep buying our devices to keep them in business

Ironically, a lot of the new technology is in the name of energy efficiency, though at least EU rules say that they have to last a certain amount of time (TV's being around 6 years)
