Default has sky's greediness cost them?

hi guys
what do you think? by sky insisting on virgin securing their network, in order that sky provide hd content,it has forced peeps to go for other ways ie motorised system, still getting all of sky plus much, much more. instead of virgin losing money on tv, sky now are losing money directly, lol. my case, a mate came round to watch a 3pm game, who has sky,£80 A MONTH HE WAS PAYING, asked how do you get that, i told him, he cancelled his sky & is pleased as punch with his new setup. best thing he ever done. this is happening all over the place, i know of at least 20 lads that have cancelled sky in the last month & are now enjoying 3pm games, amongst other things, lol. is sky's monopoly coming to an end? i hope it does, after seeing how much money they make from ripping the British public off, then it's a case of just deserts! why dont the fa make OUR football free to us, but charge everyone else through the nose for it. it is the best in the world, people want it.at the moment they charge us through the nose & everyone else gets it virtualy for free, strange

Lol. They've made record profits this year, and profits are said to soar. Just because they've lost one customer, its not the end of the world.

Incidentally, I know someone who is better off with Sky,rather than VM

btw, Sky had little to do with VM securing their network, nor did VM if it comes down to that !

The decision was made pretty much by Kudelski alone (the owners of Nagravision). The old N1 was obsolete so when the old contract between Kudelski & VM expired back in early 2008 VM's only choice was either to sign up for a newer version of Nagravision or use an alternative security system. At the time the only viable alternative would of been NDS and its exceedingly unlikely VM would of ever wished to use Sky's system !

Whilst Sky may of had a few gripes about VM's 'cracked' system they really had no influence on the switchover.

If Football companies showed football in the UK for free, they would very quickly lose money. They are private, and they must act in their best commercial interests to stay up and running. It would be nice for football to be free, but there is a difference between want/should

Sky pay football companies to see them on TV, live. The general public do not know about motorised dishes. If/when people know about these types of systems, Sky may reduce their price.

Football companies will charge more in countries, where people will pay more. Pretty simple, really. Spain's currently in the ****'s, along with Greece and these are seen as developed nations. People will be canceling their subscripts en masse, meaning that the satellite/cable providers in these countries will lower their bids, and they can offer a cheaper service due to the mass amount of people unsubscribing, due to not being able to afford it.

Also, could you really imagine a company charging people say £15-£20 for Sky Sports in Zimbabwe?

According to the Metro, Murdoch has increased Sky's revenue by some 30 or 300 percent. At any rate, it was an astronomical amount. People will pay for something that they deem value for money, or they may not want to change to a cheaper deal or may lose channels on said cheaper deal, or may not receive support etc...

Especially when you consider how much easier it is to c/s than N3 (for most)

Exactly. Why on Earth would VM want to pay a rival company, when another, cheaper product does a similar job for(possibly)less money? Didn't realise that it was easier to c/s on NDS, rather than N3. I thought it would be the opposite tbh
