The filtered adsl face plates makes all other extensions filtered. However, they do allow for unfiltered connections. If you plug into the unfiltered ports, this should fix your problem but you will have to use filters everywhere else. Alternatively, use the redudant faceplate from the socket below.

It is best to use the tool, but you can get away with using a fine screwdriver. So long as you press on the cable on either side of the metal connectors, you will be okay.

Good luck

Hi,
Thanks for your help - I think ive cracked it at last

After I had checked all the connections it was still not working so decided to try a bit rewiring. I knew that the solid blue and solid white from the main BT cable worked with both broadband and phone as this was all that was feeding my ADSL/phone socket. I disconnected all the wires from the white cable (that feeds all my other sockets) and just connected the two blue/whites to the terminals on the ADSL/phone socket. After that I plugged my router into each extension socket in turn and all working no problem!!
Now I have my router plugged in next to my PC and hard wired with ethernet.
The only issue I think I may have is with the phone. You said before that all extensions will be filtered due to the master having a built in filter. However, the only lead I have to connect from phone socket to my router is a double ended adsl lead. (small clear connector on each end.) In order to fit this into my wall socket I had to plug in a seperate splitter so it may be the case that this is now 'double filtered'.
Its not caused any issues so far and I have tried making a call at the same time as downloading from the net and all was fine. I have ran speed tests and all were consistant and fast. (well as fast as my phone line permits that is which is only 2.2mbps)

Many thanks to all that helped me out with this issue and with any luck i'll not have to touch this again!!

Well done, nice to hear you are sorted. I'll just the following

The master socket does not have the filter. It is the lower section which they ingeniously call faceplate.

Extensions are wired from the face plate so that the phone company can tell you to undo the screws and pull it away. The phone companies are only responsible upto the master socket. This is how they decide whether fault is before the house or in the house.

You have in a way bypassed the master socket. The splitter you refer to is the adsl filter. I'm assuming you have tried chatting and downloading from the same room, ie filtered extension. If you use the phone from the second room you may have issues unless you use the filters.

To undo the bypass, you can fit the main incoming wire the original way. Use the faceplate from the redundant socket and use filters on all sockets including the main one.

Thanks,
I only have 1 phone which is plugged in downstairs and the rest of my handsets are all wireless on just sit in a charging dock so there should never be a phone physically plugged in the same room so shouldnt be a problem.

Gained a lot of great info from this forum and will be sure to use it again when my next diy problem arises.

Many thanks again to all.

Cheers.
