sky never forced vm in securing there networks,, Am not sure where that info has come from.

It was done because Vm's contarct with Kudelski was ending on N1 and they had no choice either to upgrade to N3 or find a another encryption.

As stated many times, Sky have absolutely no sway over what VM may or may not do. They certainly did NOT force VM into any form of encryption upgrade. The details of this particular transaction are a matter of public record when VM renewed the Kudelski deal back in late 2007. As Kudelski no longer supported N1, part of the renewal deal was that the existing system be upgraded by Kudelski (Kudelski insistance, not VM's).

Your above statement is incorrect rumour, nothing more. The PIN number stuff is irrelevant. It had no effect on encryption.

As a matter of interest, as the encryption system is effectively rented it is Kudelski who have borne most of the cost of the upgrade of the actual encryption system. VM, however, chose to make some much wider changes at the same time which involved the integration of the three old networks (NTL/CW/TW) into a single homogoneous network. So far, the CW/TW networks are now effectively one entity but the old NTL network is proving somewhat problematic (its DAVIC based rather than DOCSIS) although great strides have been made.

The pin number, well that was only implemented for parental control puporses and nothing to do with the changes of the Encrption.

kind regards
