This would also make it "official" for individuals to subscribe to a foreign package like Canal+ etc in the UK.
I suspect that it will mean that the Euro channels will now remove the original audio soundtrack from their broadcasts.

A lot of things could happen if this goes through.. some good or not ... a real free & open market would encourage competition across borders & that should include more audio options.

Notice that so far its only an opinion and non binding !
tbh, the present situation cant last for much longer as now some US program makers are refusing to distribute their material into EU countries without a guarantee that they can maintain full distribution control. There's already a push in the EU for a new set of copyright laws so that rights holders can effectively control distribution of their material anyway they see fit. The situation will probably end up where it will become illegal for any retailer not to sell equipment to any EU customer but it will then be illegal for individuals to use that equipment to receive programming not authorised by the rights holder for that geographical location. In other words, yet another EU farce ! The end result will probably be Sky taking places like pubs etc to court but reluctantly allowing individuals to get away with it ! |

As it stands the Advocate gives her views and normally the Judges will rule with what she says and in this case against FA etc. I doubt that they will change the law for sometime in favour of TV companies as this goes against all that the current law stands for. I can see Sky implementing a commercial sub for pubs using Sky Italia and Germany but there is still Viasat Latvia and Greek Nova, mind you I bet Ruppie will try and buy both to stop them! lol

Thing is, its a much wider implication than a bit of football. There are now US production/distribution companies holding back programming because they cant guarantee they have adequate control over territorial rights.
The EU will almost certainly cave to rights holders wishes at some point. There's already a new batch of copyright laws under discussion anyway which gives rights holders pretty much carte-blanche when it comes to territorial control. |

hi guys
what do you think? by sky insisting on virgin securing their network, in order that sky provide hd content,it has forced peeps to go for other ways ie motorised system, still getting all of sky plus much, much more. instead of virgin losing money on tv, sky now are losing money directly, lol. my case, a mate came round to watch a 3pm game, who has sky,£80 A MONTH HE WAS PAYING, asked how do you get that, i told him, he cancelled his sky & is pleased as punch with his new setup. best thing he ever done. this is happening all over the place, i know of atleast 20 lads that have cancelled sky in the last month & are now enjoying 3pm games, amongst other things, lol. is sky's monopoly coming to an end? i hope it does, after seeing how much money they make from ripping the British public off, then it's a case of just deserts! why dont the fa make OUR football free to us, but charge everyone else through the nose for it. it is the best in the world, people want it.at the moment they charge us through the nose & everyone else gets it virtualy for free, strange. sky uk are greedy bas7426s. |
