Hi,

I used to have cable TV (telewest) many years ago the small black box with red lcd display - when telewest first became available. I also had telewest broadband when it first came out but have since switched to both Sky and BT Broadband years ago.

Im interested in receiving free Cable TV, so was wondering do I need a current cable subscription and if so can it be tv or broadband?

I still have the old cable connection point from my previous cable products.

Yeah my mates still got the very old box with the red led display and the numbers on top can he just replace that with a D

So long as your feed is active you can use a box - it's better to pay them something so they don't disconnect your feed.
