Default SATA HDD Problem

When I got home from work yesterday afternoon, I came to my computer to find that it had crashed and now I can no longer access the files on the HDD. The BIOS sees the hard drive and I am able to see it when I connect is as a slave to another system but I cannot access any files on it nor can I format it. From what I have read, it appears that is has bad sectors but none of Western Digital's (the manufacturer of my drive) tools seem to be able to do anything with it.

What do you think the problem might be? I can't really afford to buy a new hard drive at the moment but I don't mind losing anything that is on the HDD because it was just games and movies anyway.

If the drive is still seen in the BIOS you could try accessing/scanning it using a boot up CD, Hirens Boot CD might do the trick, you can also try using Windows repair option, on the Operating Disk, by booting up from the Xp/Vista/Win 7 disk, unless you're using a linux operating system.

I've tried the Windows 7 Startup Repair and also the System Repair option from the disc. When I ran WD's diagnostic tool it picked up the HDD and seemed to be scanning sectors but when I try the Repair option, it crashes and gives me some error.

What is the error message?
Have you tried a different SATA cable, and connection?
You can download a version of Hirens and try that, it's a very useful utility.

I can't remember off hand and yes, I have changed SATA cables three times but it's still a no go. I will download the Hiren Boot CD now and give it a whirl, thanks for your input Mickha .

Blakey that drive seems bricked to me, if the wd software wont low level format it, you can get a 2.5 to 3.5 bay that will allow you to use techwrecks generous 2.5 drive offer. gl.

I don't mind having the drive outside the case because I don't have the side panel on anyway and the tower is up on a shelf. I have sent you a PM TechWreck.

The thing is, the WD Tool told me that the drive had bad sectors.
