I think that's the main problem - the sat enthusiasts have a wide range of FTA channels available, so any subscription channel availability is just a bonus if used at all.

However, with cable it's solely about getting subscription TV for free.

Except that it isn't - you pay for a box, you pay for cards, you pay for c/s servers.

In the end you have paid for it, just not quite so much as the official subscription - but without all the support elements, potential viewing issues, and with all the legal risks that aren't an issue with an official subscription.

Where people have a genuine interest in modding and tinkering with boxes of any kind, I can totally respect that.

But there's a huge number of spongers who are interested in nothing more than some bloke down the pub promising "free TV", and then expect the real techies who come here to spoon feed how to set it up or correct problems.

And has been mentioned elsewhere, Sky at least always have offers on, especially online. Once you become a customer, Sky will try really hard to keep you on board with further discounts if needs be.

Technical talk I'm all for - but I think TW can offer a far more useful experience for everyone if we move past ex-Eurovox users looking for a hack for N3.

2c.

I fully agree. The cable forums are 99% spongery, and 1% technical. The technical side of it is nearly always talking about the tech side, and very rarely talking about actual technical data. But as long as a discussion isn't veering towards the illegal, why can't people just ignore it, and let the mods do their job when needed?

If someone asks a stupid question such as

"If I put my card in the microwave will it give me Sky Movies 2?" or "A bloke in my local synagogue has hacked N3 cards, says he uses a phoenix reader and Windows 3.1, can I do this?"

There's no need to reply with anything other than a "no". If someone has already provided that answer, what benefit is there to the tired old "Sat hasn't done it, cable is small fry, it won't happen" answer? If these posts anger you so much, let them die by not responding.

Likewise, if someone asks a question such as "Why does the data at address xyz in the RAM of my box keep moving to address abc?" and you can't answer it, and don't know what relevance it has to their life, why respond with anything? Rest assured the thread will either die, or someone who can contribute will.

The cable forums would be far better if people stayed away from topics they claim to have no interest in.

No worries, quite agree - I'll keep a closer eye out - especially now the footie section is being less demanding on my time due to better behaviour.
