Not only Brian, but if they ask Brian to hand over the complete contents of TW, they will be looking at what has been exchanged, even in PMs, so everyone is at risk, and all because some people will post the links. I will not go into details here, but in one of those links there is something which Sly would love to see I am sure. So nobody is exempt from their prying eyes if the forum were to be seen to be linking to illegal downloads, which I thing the post with the links in it did.

But if it is allowed it is and that is it, nothing you or I say will change that, we have no say on here, just the Mods and Brian and that is the way it has to be, you only have to look at the football section to understand what would happen if everyone had a say, there would never be any agreement.

Regards Wez

are all legal and there is nothing wrong with them? As I see it there is plenty in the links to have the site shut, but as I said you are the one who has the final say and what you say goes, and as I have said before it is you who are going to be in the deep doda if the inspectors come calling, as it were.

It's a very old post - almost 3 years old - so we've certainly developed the rules further since then, and I would presume the links are quite out of date.

At the time it was considered quite acceptable to post links to software updates for any legally sold equipment - what people did with their hardware was entirely up to them.

However, since then there's been a sea-change in the cable industry especially, from individuals tinkering with their boxes, to large-scale organised commercial fraud - something I want TW to have no part in supporting.

While I'm happy to continue running a cable section where people can talk about different cable hardware, software, providers, etc for legal use only, there is no intention to allow support for large-scale commercial cable fraud, so links to firmware or similar intended for that purposes are not allowed.

However, there is plenty of useful software on the net I'm happy to see linked to - computing software, satellite receiver images, android apps, and a whole range of similar patches, updates, etc.

I hope that helps clarify matters.

As you know well Wez, everyone can have their "say" (within reason), and this thread and others like it demonstrate this.

The mods generally do not decide what is allowed, at the end of the day, brian does. If you remember correctly, some of us preferred at the time to have no downloads links at all, which is also the current thinking.

The football section is a completely different issue of course, and I thought that you were mature enough to realise why the section has gone the way it has. It is because some elements on there were behaving like t**ts and everyone was basically getting sick of it, so it needed to happen, as previous more gentler approaches kept failing to keep order.

Thanks robbo, I was just using the footy section to make the point that if everyone had a say, in what was allowed, there would never be any agreement at all. I did not intend to imply that members can not have a say about things in general, but just stating my well held opinion that only those who do most of the work on here should have any say in what the rules should be, if I gave the wrong impression or did not get what I wanted to say across, then I am sorry for the confusion.

I well recall what we all discussed at that time and whilst some of us did not want anything to do with such things, it was not considered that what was happening was a breach of any legal requirement the forum should adhere to, but as Brian says things have now changed and if such things were to be allowed now then he and the forum would end up in bother. I do feel, however, that the post in question should be removed to avoid any confusion which might genuinely arise for it, as should all such post from the bad old days when the likes of it were allowed.

Regards Wez
