Hi Brian do you think it unreasonable for people to post links to outside hosts for software for the boxes on the forum, as they are not directly hosted on the forum and therefore Techwatch are not responsible for links posted on site.
Also i remember you saying in a post that it was ok to post links to other forums, would you consider allowing the above links as well. Regards Clio ps i know this has been put on the forum i would like others to see it and maybe contribute to it as well.

Having been through a similar situation before on another forum where links to certain bits of software/firmware were allowed I would advise that allowing such things is definately not a good idea. In some cases, even linking to a piece of software thats hosted elsewhere can get you into legal bother and this situation will only get worse as laws are tightened.
If people want to sell boxes etc, then let them take the risks by promoting the software/firmware on their own specialist sites ! |

No way do we want this.
Linking to an illegal file is itself an illegal act as it would be seen as directly promoting/supporting an illegal activity. Covered by rules 1 and 2 Techwatch Rules

Ok same could be the same about asking questions on said boxes, with regard to flashing them and the uses of them.
But it was a question i have put out there that's all not a life or death policy.

No-one said it was about life or death.
Freedom of speech, the rest is chat, nothing is provided.

Interesting, and one issue which I've never fully understood - I'm sure there was a "downloads" section with direct links to firmware etc. at one time. Although the downloads section was not on TW space, it was directly linked to from TW.
Are non-live links allowed? E.g. hxxp://www.naughtystuff.com/theshityoudon't wannasee Just trying to clear up what is and isn't acceptable

So we're ok to link to files in a similar manner to the post above? |

A bit contradictory as the files are all ready linked on this forum and have been since 2008, so people cant put links to the firmware except Mods and Admin, one wonders about the rules.
Rules made >>>> 13-04-08, 07:30 PM By Brian Links posted by Lincsat >>>>> 17-04-08, 11:28 PM one wonders after the rules where put up they where broken 4 days later by a Mod, obliviously does not follow the rules either.
