Hi Sol.

I got one of these after seeing your initial post. My first satnav, but pretty impressed. I have got TomTom IGO/Myguide running. Added speedcam.txt to IGO/MYGUIDE

Good games here (Pacman,Bricks,Solitaire...) _http://uploaded.to/?id=gegkfb

TomTom has UK maps, lots of POI already in it and novelty voices:-

Of course if you've been on the Ebuyer forum you'll know all this.

Thanks for the info, Yorks, but yes I have been on ebuyer forums (under a different nik). I saw "Yorks" posting there and wondered if it was you.

I've stuck with just iGo My Way 2006 Plus that I got from ppcwarez, and MyGuide - not sure whether the TomTom software offers any major advantages - a few people say TT is a lot slower.

Can't say I'm hugely impressed with the navigation so far. It was telling me there was a roundabout where there never has been one and a mile further on missing a mini one that's been there for years. It was also telling me to take exit 5 on a 4 exit roundabout! If I hadn't already known where I was going, I'd've been well foxed! I've got the 2007.7 maps on iGO so it's not that they're out of date. I would expect an error here or there, but three within a distance of 5 miles?? From what I've read though, all the major GPS alternatives use the same mapping source - TeleAtlas - so they're all likely to be the same as regards accuracy.

I'm waiting for my 2GB SD card to arrive and then I can play a bit more. Fancied using it as an MP3 player but I'm under the impression it can't do that and navigate at the same time, more's the pity.

Good toy, overall, though!
Mains charger on order from Halfords.

Cheers!
Sol

PS I see Ebuyer has put the price up twice. Bought mine for 80, then it was 85 and now 90. Must be selling a few!

I've had no probs with the maps around my area - but as you say they rely on Telemaps. Position of speed cams quite accurate around me, but some POIs are way off the mark. For instance my local BP is shown on wrong road, in someones front garden! But again wrong on all POI data i've looked at.

Not sure how quick TomTom recalcs, not used it much, but John Cleese directions are quite good. Yet to try Sven. lol.

How ironic is it that since i've updated the software on my Road Angel Nav 6000 and started subscribing to the updates again that its started working properly again with no problems like switching off and taking ages to get a GPS lock It got a lock in 4 seconds today instead of its usual 1-2 minutes

Strange that isn't it

I got the gf a MyGuide 3100 after having a huge row on the phone with her just before Christmas when she couldn't follow some simple directions. Works great and as mentioned already the reoute recalc is very quick, well worth the money (bought from Ebuyer).

I got a tom tom 1 XL in the january sales, its got the wider screen, its brilliant, wasnt too keen on the sucker attachment thing that sticks to the windscreen but its better than it looks holds quite solid.
I noticed an error in the map at junction 10 airport turn off on the m1 near where i live it tells you to turn right instead of left, could be quite nasty, i havnt worked out how to edit it yet, got the A to B and back again sorted, ive got ozzy osbourne voice with swearing, its funny at first but gets on your nerves after a while, i think il change it.
