No idea what the first type was I used, but found using a modern day iMac a little strange to say the least after using a PC for so long.

While general operations are generally fine, it's little things, such as going through the equivalent of Windows Explorer which doesn't seem so intuitive - click on a main folder and through subolders - fine - but to go back a folder I seem to find myself having to start at the main folder again.
