Anyone got any ideas on how I could fully delete the 30gb partition I have made on my laptop hdd and join it up with the rest of my hard drive?

You need a tool that will resize or merge partitions mate, try reading here. Failing that, bring your laptop into college tomorrow and we will see what we can do .

I forgot to add, you should be able to format the 30GB partition using the Vista installation disc. You will need to do this before you merge the partition with your main one.

If ubuntu has been installed, deleting the partition will also delete the grub bootloader.
Windows will not then boot. The mbr must be reinstalled onto the windows partition. It can be done using the vista disk to FIXMBR.'at least with xp you can.'
I use a free linux program called 'supergrub. that usually do's the job.

Unless the bootloader was installed onto the windows partition when ubuntu was installed. If left to itself it will put it onto the linux partition.
I assume vista works the same way as xp.I have never used vista,
Also gparted is a good free partitioner. But same as anything else,it is getting to know how to use them takes time.
