The forum software is supposed to update a lot of counters on the forums (posts, threads, etc) every hour or so, so it's possible there may be a delay coming into play with this.

However, I do have another forum where for a while, and for reasons I could never fathom, the "last post" feature never worked properly and the thread numbers went screwy in a similar way. I think that was corrected in a software update, but sometimes computers are just plain weird.

It may also be an issue with large threads, which I'm sure has been flagged previously by vbulletin as potentially resulting in errors.

I'll keep an eye out on the issue though.
