Default Kryptview not connecting to net?

Hello all, I'm having problems with a brand new a780. Basically, it is not connecting to the net.

It currently has the 03/01/2011 firmware installed. I have used a proper serial port on both a win 7 and xp machine. Settings have been checked as per problem with kv a780. The cable used for flashing is a null modem cable. I have re-downloaded Downtool a couple of times from different locations just in case I had a corrupt download. I have tried several firmware files to at least get the weather/traffic news. 18 May, 24 Aug, 09 Sept as well as 03 Jan of this year. I've even tried to perform a software update, but it stays at 0% and does not move.

The network cable works okay on other devices, different ports used on the router as well as connecting it to the modem directly. (Reboots before each test, modem, router, stb.) I've even used a mifi device with a wifi bridge just in case there was an issue with the router settings . I've pinged it, and surprisingly there is no data loss. The only thing that may be worth noting is that on the router (ddwrt) it shows up as an active client but does not appear in the dhcp client list.

Channels scanned, needless to say they are scrambled.

Is there anything else I should try or does this mean the STB is faulty? Is there a diagnostic tool I can try?

Many thanks in advance.

Eliminate what it isn't first .. .. "" diagnostic tool I can try? "" plug you box into a ' trusted ' friends :

- known to be good Vir&in cable, and ;
- known to be good router / ether-net port

That way you prove your box / ether-net cable are ok so it must be :

- your Vir&in cable, or ;
- your router / ether-net setup

I've lent someone my a780. He's asked me to buy one for him and set it up. So all the cables were working until a week ago. During the channel scan, all the normal channels were found. My PC and the STB are next to each other, I've swapped the ethernet cables over.

The led on the lan ports are lit, but the yellow one goes on and off rather than the constant flickering.

Have a look at the contacts in the ethernet port on the kv - sometimes some of the sticker that was covering the ethernet port can find its way onto the contacts and you wont get a proper connection to the internet.

Its still an internet / ether-net issue, channels as you call them come down the thick Vir&in wire, the ability to see [ decode ] the channels comes over the ether-net.

Are you saying that the box worked fine a week ago and you were able to view / see the different channels, not the names, the actual picture on the TV ?

Now if you've loaned the box to someone, are they getting the channels on the TV ?

Help me understand .. .. . what has your PC got to do with anything ?

Many thanks for replies so far....

Network port is clean with no bent pins either.....

My box works fine, I lent it to someone to try out before the cricket starts (He is still has it). He decided that he wants one too. So I bought this current box for him and it is now in the same place using the same connections, in the same ports that were being used by my box.

The PC is used to flash the STB. I am trying to eliminate any issues that could have interfered with the flashing process.

- right now I understand we are talking about a second / different / a~n~other box

- just flash it again then, its an EEPROM, its a bit of a sex mechanic .. .. and doesn't care how many times its flashed [ non many hundreds though ]
