Default Will the VM card work?

Since our SV 6 went belly up we've gone back to basics and now on Freeview.

It lost all channels yesterday so had to have a DVD night. DH not impressed we've not tele so we got a VM box + card and remote from flea bay. Will the card work for us or I will I have to hunt out our smart card? (no small feat I tell you) I'm thinking the card will be registered to the old owner and perhaps stop us from viewing.

Any words of widsom?

TIA

Susie

The ONLY way to get a Virgin Media box to work is to have it supplied with its paired card from Virgin Media and pay the appropriate subscriptions.

No box from ebay will work.

We already pay Vermin for TV BB and phone so have the signal there. We can't find our original VM box, it was put away when we got our SV6 - never to be found as it seems!

The box comes with the card so it should work - right . . . . ?

TIA

Susie

As I said previously, the box you have acquired will not work.

You have a valid card but have LOST the box it is paired with.

Your mistake was to LOSE the Virgin Media box which belongs to them and they will want it back at some stage.

You have two options. Go down the KV route or cancel your Virgin Media TV service and hope they don't ask for the box back.

She does have a valid card as she is a Virgin Media subscriber. It's either in the box she's lost or is in her possession, having been sent to her for her subscribed box when her area went N3.

Oh dear - I fear I have confused us all!

I DO HAVE a VM smart card for my old (poss skipped) box

I bought a VM box WITH PAIRED CARD off fleabay.

I did wonder if VM wanted the boxes back if ppl unsubscribed but seeing as there are loads of them on flea bay I suspected not.

Well, it's due some time over weekend so I'll plug it in and see what happens. If no joy it can join my SV6 box in a drawer . . . .

Cheers

Susie

Even if the seller is telling the truth and the card is paired to the box, it will still not work. In addition to being paired, it has to be on the Virgin Media system on a particular account.

Virgin Media think you have a valid, paired box and card and are receiving the service you are paying for. When you cancel your account with them, dependent on the vintage of the box they supplied, they may want the box returned or a payment made.

Hi pity you did not put the VM box is a drawer, it is of use to you now, but what I do not get is what you wanted to keep the SV box for, it is as dead as a dodo and has about the same chance of coming back to life. I would have said that you were wasting your money paying for the VM TV, I should have thought that you would have canceled the TV part and saved yourself some money.

Regards Wez
