My Dad picked one of these up for £140 and I was looking into it... there is no card with it and it has already been configured.
That rings alarm bells for me, what was wondering what you guys thought? I am also not keen on unplugging the two feeds that currently go into our Sky+ HD box to support the DM500V8

there is no suprise there mate if it has been configured correctly as what you say then its means that its gonna be connecting to someone else server in order to obtain the channels. for this to work the box will need to be connected to an active broadband connection / router. There is no suprise there and alot of people are using this methods in order to get the channels they want. So you can go ahead and connect your sky feed into that box. you only need one cable connected to the box from the sky plus box and not Both of em. The box is a single Tuner box, which means 2 cables are not supposed to be connected.

Hmm! I didn't want to touch my existing Sky+ box. I suppose I can get another cable put in from the dish to the DM500V8.
Do you think £140 was worth it, or would I be better off trying to return in and spending £70 myself on the same box and setting it up myself. Is there a cost to these servers it connects to? |

Personally I wouldnt have bought that box for 140 quid and find it a rip off. you can grab a HD box for 100 quid and do the full configuration / setup yourself mate Works out much cheaper to do it yourself then to buy a box from someone else, espcially when you dont know how good the sever is which they put you on. Yes there is a subscription to these server which you are liable to pay if you want the channels. This can be for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and so on. so the man who sold your dad that box would most likely have the subs for around 3 months tops I would say. After that you would need to renew it and to mention chase him up.

putting the cable in is **** easy mate. There is no rocket science behind it mate. I would recommeded if you have the money then a Dm8000 or Dm800 or VU+duo. you can get a clone Dm800HD for around 200 quid probably less if you do some digging around. which would be the cheapest clone for a HD box. Otherwise u can get the OpenBOX S9 HD PVR which is around 90 - 100 quid.
