I've removed the board "Footie chat", and expect the removal to be permanent.
We're a tech forum - that remains our main focus - and while interests outside of that are fine and welcome where they are not disruptive to the community, it's clear the footie section always has been and always will be. I've tried to push on moderating the board to remove disruptive members, but really it seems an endemic problem. I could start just banning people, but if a section of a forum is so bad that the regulars there constantly invite banning, then it's obviously a section best removed. What's especially bad is that everyone blames everyone else for the bad behaviour, and when we step in to try and calm things down, we get a public condemnation of being thought police. Therefore there will no longer be a Football discussion board on Techwatch because it's not worth the disruption it causes.

Hi
Over the last few days had a feeling that this would happen. I dont blame Brian or any of the mods as some people just didnt want to be told and this was the only course of action left. I would also like to thanks all the participants in the footie section for their maturity shown in their responses to posts which has resulted in the footie section being closed. Regards |

Bound to happen, but it is a tech site and i can see why. I will miss it though. I have enjoyed many sections of techwatch for years now, and i can live without the footie section

It wasnt much of a football forum anyway. Just full of man u liverpool hate lol. There are loads of forums dedicated to football out there which hold much better debate than the techwatch footie chat.
Dont blame brian and co for closing it as obviously they have enough to deal with on the other sections which is what techwatch is all about. |

Now there's a big empty hole in the forum where the football section used to be, could we fill it with a general electronics chat? I've got a couple of questions that don't fit into any subforum but I think fit in with the general ethos of the site. Of course, it may only be me who wants this. I'm off to stick my questions in an inappropriate place

I think that would be a good idea too, as it doesn't seem to fit in to any of the other categories particularly well. Though you may be right it may be only you that wants it, but will suggest to brian anyway. EDIT Ok, there is this section that includes electronics http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/diy/ but I think it may be worthy of separating the electronics out as it is techy, so post in there for the time being.
