Always best to send such items recorded delivery or at least keep the certificate of posting, then a claim for lost item can be made from Royal Mail. Very simple.

There is a timescale specified by Royal Mail, for when an item can be considered to be lost, I believe it to be 15 days, so if after that time it does not arrive, a refund is due from the seller, and he claims from Royal Mail. The sender is always responsible in these cases.

Just because one parcel arrives does not mean the other isn't lost in the postal system.
I know of numerous parcels, lost by the post office, and when our local post office depot moved, last year, they found 100's of letters, and parcels, some from 10 years ago

Christmas 2009 we had a card to say that they had tried to deliver a parcel but no-one was in, I went to the local office the next day to be told that it had not been returned yet and to call the next day, this went on up Christmas and after. I left it till the new year but still no trace, they didn't know who had delivered the card as he was a temporary staff member. I was then told that as it was over 15 days it would have been sent to Northern Ireland to be returned to the sender! I still don't know what it was or who from. Thanks Royal Mail.............
