Default China Syndrome?

Just been watching on the News that following the Japan Earthquake, a Nuclear Power station is losing coolant level from a reactor. It reminds me of the Movie China Syndrome. It's looking scary, glad I'm not in the area.

They are suggesting that the explosion is not too bad, they are more concerned with falling coolant levels. If they can't get the core cooled, then we could be looking at another Chernobyl.

This is very unfortunate and a massive blow to the Japanese people. We can only really hope that there isn't another Chernobyl in the world, due to what's happened

Yes this is true. There are some stupid Americans thinking that this is somehow payback for Pearl Harbour?

How ignorant can you be? Was 9/11 payback for the Hiroshima bombings? I think not

The reactor designs used in Japan are very different to those used at Chernobyl. Whilst a core breach would be very bad news its unlikely it would ever get as bad as Chernobyl.

Anyway, form what i'm told a core breach is still a long way off. There's still several reactor 'cooldown' options that haven't yet been used (because they still hope to save the cores and the 'cooldown' options are core destructive)

Supposedly, Japan is the best prepared country for tsunami's, Earthquakes and nuclear meltdowns(can't remember where I read this) This sends out a message to other countries, to really get their act together

Here's a satellite view of Japan April 2010 and Japan March 2011:
Satellite Photos - Japan Before and After Tsunami - Interactive Feature - NYTimes.com

You can see the devastating consequence of the Earthquake
