Default Laptop charger advice --- Please

Hi all,

I had to buy a replacement battery charger for my HP Compaq 6720s laptop.

I have now went through 4 since i bought the first replacement approx 1 year ago. They work well for a few months then fail.

Could it be to do with the output? The replacements are all 18.5v - 3.5A

I don't know if that is the same as the original.

I know I will have to buy another but would rather get the correct one.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Spewy.

According to this site, HP Compaq Business Notebook 6720S AC Adapter Charger,HP Compaq Business Notebook 6720S AC Adapter Power Supply Charger(65W,90W)

these are suitable replacements. If you've had a few failures, it may be the laptop, not the charger, that's the problem.

Yeh maybe, but why would they all work for a while then fail?

1 failing is acceptable, two is way too much of a coincidence for my taste, so that just leaves the lappy itself. Maybe the charging circuit has a fault that fails the charger over time..just guessing.

Have you been buying Genuine HP chargers, or wing wong unbranded chinese cheapies? I'd never trust a cheapo power supply on my laptops, Ive seen many reports of unbranded adaptors failing.. Who knows what voltage it might send down to a device when they go pop..
