Default vw golf

vw golf 1992 j reg 1.4 pertol engine,
i was driving down the road when there was lack of power pulled over engine cut out , started it up reved it for a couple of seconds wouldnt tick over the further you pressed the pedal down it seemed it wanted to cut out,
got towed to a engine centre and even there mechanic was scratching his head . so im still waiting to hear from them .
so any ideas guys is more than welcome

To be honest it could be anything from a blocked fuel filter to damp in the electrics to a blocked cat to an air leak in the intake system to the cambelt hopped a tooth to a faulty engine sensor or acctuator.

Sorry I cant offer any better advise but thats the way it goes with faults like that.
