Hey guys,
Basically recently it seems that the signal strength from VM has been lowered on my connection. I normally split the main cable 2 ways, one which is cable for the KV and one for the internet, allowing the KV to function properly. However suddenly the internet was not working with the tick light on the modem not being steady. Thus affecting the KV in the process. I went outisde to double check all the connections etc and everything seemed to be fine. Then I decided to take off the splitter and just connect the internet and it works fine. So the problem is now that I cant have internet connected and the cable wire for the KV at the same time as the signal is too low and the net will not work. Does anyone know how this can be fixedas its stopping me from using the KV. Thanks & Regards |

VM are doing a lot of work in various aread in preperation for both the internet upload change and the new 100Meg service. Part of that process is the re-jigging of all the local transponders for what VM describe as 'optimum' signal levels. Often, that means a lowering of signal levels for a lot of individuals.
You could try a signal booster but often these are unsatisfactory as they tend to boost noise as well as signal thus significantly affecting the snr levels. An alternative, is to get VM to fit a stb. If you already have a phone & internet (not sure if you need both or just one) then you are entitled to a stb on the lowest 'L' (basically freeview) level at no further monthly cost. This means they will fit their own splitter and cabling plus check your signal levels. You also get the benefits of access to BBC Iplayer and some of the other catchup TV stuff. Once this is fitted you should be able to swap between KV & Vm stb at will (often you can feed the VM stb from the KV RF output although you lose access to interactive and catchup TV doing this). |

I had the same problem, but the guy from VM on the phone said it was an outage. So he said.. it's where the Db's which are the packets of data going down the pipe has exceed the upper limit and this will cause your Modem to fail or stop working. period. ie PC, LAPTOPS, and KV all running at the same time.
BUT, VM sent an engineer and replaced the incoming filter and the cable and now it works fine. OUTAGE MY ASS. OR I'm the ass...please don't answer that lol

dB's are a measure of signal level and nothing to do with packets ! The amount of data cannot physically affect the signal level. Signal levels are controlled solely by analog hardware devices. You cannot exceed your datarate allocation. Its coded into the modem via the config file. Reaching the maximum datarate of the modem does not cause it to suddenly stop. It will simply feed you data at the maximum configured rate rate (assuming enough bandwidth exists on your local segment). |
