Default buying a starview

Hi all, my mate bought a starview whilst I took the sat route, now he's watching freeview but doesn't know theres a fix for it.I asked him if I could buy it of him and he wasn't sure because his dad bought the box and he's on holiday. He said if I want to buy it he'll give it to me for around £25. Now should I fix it for him or buy it for myself ????
