Default Clicking Western Digital 2.5inch 500gb external hdd!

I've got a wd 2.5 inch 500gb hard drive that's clicking. Any ideas on how I could recover the data? I've got a few ideas such as taking out the metal discs and putting them in another 2.5 inch hard drive to retrieve the data...? Any other ideas?

clicking drives are basically a sign of a drive being on its last legs or foocked literally.

Doing a Platter swap is not for an amateur and its more an professional job.

Even then I think you would need identical drives mate in order that to work.

there is theories that apparently putting the drive in the freezer for a few hrs and then putting it into the laptop / desktop suppose to work

However professionals recommend that its not a good idea and that the condensation fecks up the drive even more.

Sometimes swapping the PCB boards sorts the issue out as well, however if u wanna try that u would need to locate a exact same drive and match everything.. i.e date , firmware version, Rom version and so on.

Done it on 3.5 inch drive and worked like a charm , however the drive was dead at the time and it was nothing to do with the click of death.

I would highly advice that you send it to a professional recovery company.
