Post Traffic Management

Hi Guys,
Some info for you.
I have a Virg*n 20mb connection & use the usenet to download from certain sites.
Yesterday all my downloaders stopped working so I contacted Gig*news to find out if the server was down.
They told me that in 2 hrs they'd had 38 customers - all Virg*n users with the same problem. It would seem that traffice management comes into play plus the programmes used to download nzb files & torrents are being recognised and blocked.
Virg*n told me that they are managing heavy users & your download speeds will be reduced by 75% between 3-00pm & 9-00pm.
So be aware - we are being watched all the time.
Maybe time to change ISP's?
Regards

VM's polices on traffic management aren't exactly a secret. Its pretty much all documented on their website although it can be difficult to find the proper links.

This policy does not impact any applications other than Peer to Peer and Newsgroups, so things like watching iPlayer, online gaming, making calls via Skype, downloading music tracks from iTunes or streaming them from Spotify and sending an email or normal browsing are unaffected.

It's important to remember that these traffic management policies only apply at peak times when speeds are most likely to be affected by people using more than their fair share. Outside of peak times we do not manage traffic.

precisely the reason I left VM ages ago, their draconian STM policy. But there's never been any secret about it.
